“Science On a Sphere” SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Dear Friends,

IMAS cordially invites you and a guest to join us at a special presentation for the recently opened science exhibit, “Science On a Sphere”, with Congressman Ruben Hinojosa. The presentation will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. As IMAS proceeds with the educational programs associated with “Science On a Sphere”, it is vital that our local officials participate in a dialogue about the importance of such an exhibit in our community. The reception will include a presentation of the sphere as well as time for discussion and questions.

“Science On a Sphere” at IMAS is the 1st in the State of Texas and only the 24th in the world. The implications for sparking the imagination and creativity of our students and parents in the Rio Grande Valley is fantastic, and furthermore, the exhibit will indirectly encourage continued education with its seamless integration of science, technology and stunning visual display.

Since “Science On a Sphere” opened to the public on September 14th, over 1,000 people have been afforded the opportunity to view Earth and other planetary and celestial objects like never before. McAllen ISD will begin their annual tours of IMAS on October 28th with the inclusion of “Science On a Sphere” and UTPA GEAR UP students will begin their tours in the spring. Our quantitative goal for this school year is to bring at least 16,000 students through IMAS to view the exhibit, representing a 14% increase from 2007-2008 and over a 50% increase from 2005-2006.

Please join us for this special reception with Congressman Ruben Hinojosa on October 30th. To RSVP for the event, please contact Mary Garza at IMAS via phone at 956-682-0123, ext. 134.

Sincerely yours,

Serena Rosenkrantz
